TERRE/MER

ceramics and cuisine week en Provence

Ceramics. Cuisine. Time. Immersion. Authenticity.

FROM SUNDAY NOVEMBER 13 TO SUNDAY NOVEMBER 20, 2022

The South of France has drawn artists and cooks, writers and weary travelers looking for respite. A place out of time and yet very much of its time, the Mediterranean is known for its crystal blue waters and rich terroir: Along the rocky white cliffs of the calanques buzz bees raised by eco-conscious beekeepers; just a few miles away, deep black Grenache, Carignan, and Mourvedre grapes are grown for the region’s dry, pale pink rosés.

In the heart of historic La Ciotat, meanwhile, young entrepreneurs including organic produce vendors, winesellers, cheesemongers, and, of course, artisans like the ceramicists of ICI l’Atelier flourish, as the small city regains new life. TERRE/MER invites you to be a part of this space, with Emily and Camille as your guides.

TERRE/MER is not your typical vacation – nor your typical retreat. If you are passionate about art and cuisine and looking to discover the South of France in a small group of women and non-binary individuals, then Bienvenue – we’ve been waiting for you.

Your Guides

Your Guides

Camille and Emily have forged a friendship around their shared passions for local terroir, art, and gastronomy. The former a French product designer and ceramicist, the latter a culinary tour guide and journalist for such publications as the BBC and Food & Wine, they are the ideal duo for this atypical retreat.

The Place

The Place

La Ciotat is a typical seaside village in the South of France, just a half-hour's drive from the bustling port city of Marseille. Filled with tiny, colorful alleys and impressive views of cliff-lined Calanques, it also boasts a lively Mediterranean port ripe for discovery.

Ceramics Intensive

Ceramics Intensive

If you've always dreamed of working with earth to make your own art objects, you've come to the right place. For five days of our retreat, join Camille for a four-hour intensive ceramics class each morning. You'll learn modeling techniques and come away with your very own ceramic tableware, hand-crafted by you!

Terroir-Driven Cuisine

It wouldn't be a French vacation without some excellent local food, and Emily and Camille have got you covered. Each day, we will prepare typical local recipes using seasonal produce. Join Emily in the kitchen for a daily atelier to learn the ins and outs of French cuisine, or simply join us at the table for a family-style meal.
